Service was quick and good. Car ok except that it smelled like somebody smoked in it.

Bad news/good news story here that ends very well. We were in a big hurry at the Columbia (SC) airport to get our car as our flight had landed almost 2 hours late. The staff was prompt to help at the desk and sent us to the garage where we had difficulty finding the Alamo rep (he had gone inside the building). We jumped in the car and dashed, hoping to make our planned events for the evening. Before long, we realized just how bad the car smelled -- cigarette smoke and cloying air freshener, but it was too late to turn back to the airport. The next morning, I called Alamo. They were very happy to replace the car with a new car at the Greenville/Spartanburg airport location and were appropriately apologetic for the troubles. They took a bad situation, fixed it quickly and easily, and turned me into a repeat customer. Kudos to Alamo.

Received a great car and was a new Camaro when booked an economy car. Appreciated the upgrade but when we got to the desk to check in we were told we were required to have a credit card and could not use our debit card as we always have at Alamo. We use Alamo for the reason of a debit card and no hold on the card over the rental price. We had the flight information but that did not work. My wife does not have a card and they would not allow me to use my credit card even as a spouse unless it was in my account. I didn't want to put it in my name as I am underage but the company did what they could to get the reservation changed and get an extra $25.

I am an Alamo Insider and was quite shocked when I picked up my rental vehicle to learn that there was a $200 deposit that would be included in the "hold charge" during the duration of my rental. Nowhere was this stated while making my reservation online nor was it in my reservation confirmation. Not only that, but when I returned my vehicle they charged me the $200 and then I had to walk into the terminal to the rental counter to get the refund applied to my credit card. If I didn't do that, my "deposit" would not have been refunded. Alamo may have been a more economical choice, but definitely not a convenient one. Alamo needs to let people know when making the reservation about the deposit. I was upgraded because they did not have the vehicle type I reserved which was great. That is the only reason I gave them 3 stars.

Roche, Oscar, Jamal, and the lady who check us in were all wonderful. They all serve with a smile, rates are fair, cars are clean. Easy in an out. These folks made an otherwise bad day easier.
